The Critical Issues module enabled me to explore the contemporary challenges and opportunities facing the fashion industry through a strategic, analytical lens. As part of the module, I identified and investigated a specific critical issue affecting the sector, examining its impact on fashion markets, brands, and consumer behaviour within a social, cultural, and economic context. My critical issue was The Paradox of Luxury - and what this means for fashion brands and their ultra-high net-worth clientele.
For the outcome of this module, I developed a 20-minute digital presentation that critically unpicked my chosen issue and proposed a research question to take forward into my Final Major Project. My investigation was grounded in secondary research and theoretical frameworks, supported by situation analysis and a defined methodology. The module encouraged me to think critically about fashion's systemic problems and to contextualise these within wider industry discourse.
To demonstrate the significance and relevance of my topic, I used high-impact visuals, infographics, and research findings, and presented my work with confident verbal delivery. This process enhanced my critical thinking, strategic planning, and digital communication skills, and laid the foundation for a thoughtful and informed approach to my Final Major Project. For this module, I achieved a 1:1 (78).
